Letter: Pause before you lay blame in wildlife-vehicle collisions

“Judgment come from assumptions.” I read this quote recently, and I want to suggest that when we see a wildlife-vehicle collision or the aftermath of one, we need to give pause before we lay blame. As observers, we cannot know what happened for certain.

Was the driver at fault? Possibly, but not necessarily. Vilifying someone without knowing the circumstances is one way to vent our frustration, sadness and anger, but perhaps there is a better way to channel these powerful feelings. What can we do to lessen these collisions? Focusing on solutions rather than the shame and blame game will bring us together as a community.
