Today's Opinions

  • Where have all the adults gone?

This is, indeed, a critical time for our country. Instances of incomprehensible violence are leveraged to produce an intended political agenda.
Traumatized and grieving victims are given no time for healing. Rather, their very personal post-traumatic stress is sensationalized and publicized. Children are being used by adults to further an agenda, an agenda that is in direct conflict with the U.S. Second Amendment.

Don’t impose your opinions on others

I write in response to the letter to the editor entitled “Legally Blonde’ or blind?,” published in the Canyon Courier on Feb. 21. While the tone and intent of the letter was well-meaning, it illustrates a major problem with society today.
Specifically, one writer’s personal and religious-based opinions about an  Evergreen Middle School play is being transposed upon our society as a whole.

  • Caucuses give you a chance to make an impact

Have you ever wanted to have a real impact on state and local politics? Are there issues and concerns that you wish to have brought to others attention? Is there a candidate who you wish to vote for and have others support as well? In Colorado, you can do all of this and much more on Tuesday, March 6, at your neighborhood caucus.

  • First step toward November elections

The first step toward electing Colorado’s next governor and other candidates who’ll be running in November’s general election is next Tuesday when Republicans and Democrats will conduct their precinct caucuses.

  • Follow the money

Congress passed a budget bill and the President sent his budget request to Congress where the differences between the two must be resolved. All signs point to much higher spending as Congress has voted to eliminate the sequestration imposed in 2013 to limit the growth of government spending. It’s not remotely possible that the total will represent a balanced budget as spending will again exceed revenues.
