    Change starts with action
    Editor:
As a local business owner who comes into contact with a variety of people every day, I generally lay low when it comes to politics and religion.
However, in light of the recent Parkland school shooting tragedy, the ensuing barrage of opinions, and the overall political tsunami that has engulfed the
U.S., I have felt compelled to DO more.

  • Realpolitik equals Fair Trade equals a new NAFTA

Soon after the inauguration of President Trump, I wrote a column predicting that the tone and timber of his foreign policy would be that of Realpolitik. Certainly, the months since and the latest tariff pronouncement underscore the validity of this prognostication.

  • Shielded from their transgressions

When the Colorado House of Representatives voted to expel Steve Lebsock, it ended a sorry saga, but did little to put to rest lingering discussions about sexual harassment at the State Capitol.
After Lebsock was accused of sexual harassment by a fellow lawmaker, several other complaints against legislators were filed. Four additional complaints were filed against Lebsock and complaints were filed against one other representative and three senators.

    Never again
    Editor:
I am a Colorado resident who on April 20, 1999, said nothing.
I am a Virginia Tech graduate who on April 16, 2007, said nothing.
I am a Christian who on June 17, 2015, said nothing.
    I am a U.S. citizen who on Oct. 1, 2017, said nothing.
I am the proud parent of a son at Western State Colorado University.
I am an independent voter in Colorado.
    Never again.
Never again will I support a candidate who does not support responsible gun legislation.

  • The enemy within

Recently my son and I watched the movie “The Darkest Hour” about Winston Churchill. We enjoyed it a great deal and, of course, came away with the realization that were it not for the leadership of Churchill World War II most likely would’ve had a different ending.

  • Where have all the adults gone?

This is, indeed, a critical time for our country. Instances of incomprehensible violence are leveraged to produce an intended political agenda.
Traumatized and grieving victims are given no time for healing. Rather, their very personal post-traumatic stress is sensationalized and publicized. Children are being used by adults to further an agenda, an agenda that is in direct conflict with the U.S. Second Amendment.

Don’t impose your opinions on others
    Editor:
I write in response to the letter to the editor entitled “Legally Blonde’ or blind?,” published in the Canyon Courier on Feb. 21. While the tone and intent of the letter was well-meaning, it illustrates a major problem with society today.
Specifically, one writer’s personal and religious-based opinions about an  Evergreen Middle School play is being transposed upon our society as a whole.
