    A balmy evening couldn’t melt the Christmas spirit in downtown Evergreen at the 17th annual Holiday Walk, where merchants were merry and visitors reveled in the small-town spirit.

    Sponsored by the Evergreen Downtown Business Association, the event was the perfect chance to get out of the house for a couple of hours and get in the holiday spirit.

  • Sheriff working with bars, liquor stores on enforcement

    Earlier this year, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office conducted sting operations at 51 liquor stores and bars. Cadets under age 21 with either fake IDs or no IDs were able to buy liquor at 28 of the 51 establishments. That 55-percent failure rate was not acceptable to Capt. Daniel Gard and other sheriff's office staff.

  • Group files appeal in Mount Morrison tower case

    The group fighting the construction of a horizontal TV tower on Mount Morrison above Red Rocks Amphitheatre has filed a last-minute appeal to the state Court of Appeals. But the move is not likely to halt construction plans in the meantime.

    The filing follows an Oct. 7 district court ruling that the Jefferson County commissioners had followed the proper process in approving the tower proposal.

  • Wah Keeney Park builder clearing land

    Residents of Wah Keeney Park are up in arms for the second time since 2006 about the same developer’s preliminary building activities on the 92 small lots he owns on the ridge above Troublesome Creek.

    This time it’s about the construction of a temporary road and the related felling of hundreds of trees in September at the end of Larkspur Road on the far eastern fringe of Wah Keeney Park.

    The developer, Tim Barbachano of Ridge Creek Development LLC of Lone Tree, is also embroiled in a lawsuit with neighbors Mike and Roseanne Paslay on nearby Larkspur Drive.

  • New playground equipment slated for Marshdale

    The votes have been tallied, and the results are in.

    The Asterope won by a landslide.

    The Asterope? It’s a piece of playground equipment. Students at Marshdale Elementary were asked to look at five design concepts for their new playground, and they were asked to vote for the one they wanted to play on the most.

    Kirsten Hollander, vice president of the Marshdale PTA, said the vote culminates a couple of years of planning to redo the school playground.

    A seasonal concert by the Evergreen Chorale kicks off the holidays on the right note Friday night at Center/Stage in Evergreen. Led by music director Mike Weiker and accompanied by pianist Ellen DeJonge, the 74 members of the Chorale present “Voices of Peace.” The program spans the ages and changing styles of music with holiday compositions from the 17th century to the present.

  • Holiday lights keep landscapers busy this season

  • BMC Building Materials closes doors in Bergen Park

    Bergen Park mainstay BMC Building Materials, 1232 Bergen Parkway, has closed its doors to the public. The last day of business was Sunday, Dec. 7.

    Some of the sales staff have been reassigned to the BMC store in Centennial, but at least 12 other workers were laid off, according to store manager Andy Roe, who was reached at the store on Monday.

    Roe said the decision to close the store was made elsewhere at the corporate level.

    Questions about the shutdown were referred to the Centennial store.
