  • Three Evergreen businesses honored with chamber awards

    The owners of three businesses said they were honored and humbled that they won the Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce’s top awards for 2018.

    RPM Agency was named New Business of the Year, Anderson Insurance Agency was named Business of the Year and Go Paint! With Fire-n-Faeries was the People’s Choice Business of the Year.

    The awards were given at the annual Sparkle & Shine gala on Dec. 1.

  • SOTA: Evergreen Middle School performing ‘Annie’ for the holidays

    The sun will come out for students at Evergreen Middle School who are performing “Annie” on Dec. 13, 14 and 15. The primarily all-girl cast of 50 will light the stage at Evergreen High School.

    “It’s fresh, new and exciting,” Montana Brown, director and choral music teacher at Evergreen Middle School, said. “‘Annie’ is a musical theater staple that every kid could be in.”

    Never fear, Brown hasn’t forgotten about the boys. She has cast 50 boys in “Newsies,” which will be performed in January.

  • Cookie Walk lures scores of people to get their fill of the sweet treats

    Scores of people filled bags, boxes and containers with cookies of all shapes and sizes on Saturday during the 15th annual Cookie Walk.

    The event at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church allows church bakers to show off their wares, while those who prefer not to bake for the holidays can purchase every kind of cookie imaginable.

    Roughly 15,000 cookies were for sale — and organizers hoped the cookie supply would last beyond noon.

  • Evergreen Lake Plunge is back on

    Anyone ready to take the plunge — literally — will be able to do so at the Evergreen Lake Plunge on New Year’s Day.

    The event, which had been canceled by its longtime sponsor Drive Smart, has been revived, and it will be the fun, quirky event that has gotten plungers and spectators alike excited for the new year.

    Residential development under construction on Highway 73

    Work has begun on the infrastructure for a new residential development at Highway 73 and Skyline Road.

    Called Skyline Ridge, the 20-acre property will have 26 homes in a gated community, and it will use water and sewer from the Evergreen Metropolitan District. In addition, natural gas lines and Comcast are being installed, according to Realtor Katherine Fleet with RE/MAX Alliance.

    The developer is Liam Cassidy with Cassidy Inc.

    The Jeffco Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a swastika that was found painted on the playground at West Jefferson Middle School in Conifer.

    With ballot questions 5A and 5B as local measures and Amendment 73 at the state level, voters in Jeffco had important and meaningful options to consider.
