Shear relief: Alpacas shed their thick coat for some summertime comfort

It only takes five minutes or so for an alpaca to go from fuzzy to fabulous.

About a dozen alpacas had their annual spring haircut during a shearing event at Vince and Cynthia Stinton’s farm in Conifer on June 3. “Alpaca Tom” Morrison visited the farm, and local alpaca owners brought their animals.

Morrison, who hails from New Mexico, visits farms across the Southwest. He has been shearing alpacas and llamas for 16 years, the first five as a “headman,” the person who holds the alpaca’s head during shearing.
