Local and federal investigators are looking into burglaries at two Evergreen-area post offices.
According to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Indian Hills Post Office was burglarized sometime between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning The Idledale Post Office was burglarized after close of business on Monday.
Investigators could be seen outside the Idledale office with the building and parking lot blocked off on Tuesday morning.
As of Tuesday mid-day, the USPIS did not yet have direct information that the two burglaries were related, said Postal Inspector Eric Manuel, but clarified that the investigators are exploring the possibility, given the post offices’ proximity and time frame.
The USPIS did not yet know everything that had been taken from the Idledale Post Office, Manuel added, but a number of packages and mail were taken from P.O. boxes at the Indian Hills location.
Manuel asked that any affected residents check with their financial institutions for any recent suspicious activity, call the recipients of any mail they’ve sent recently to see if the intended mail arrived, and report missing mail and packages to USPIS’s 24-hour hotline at 1-877-876-2455.
“The big thing we want to stress is that any missing mail or suspicious financial activity be reported to us,” he continued, adding that mail thieves are often looking for people’s personal and financial information. “...And, if the public has any information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible, there might be a financial reward.”
The Jeffco Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation, and anyone who sees suspicious activity near a local post office should call 911 and then USPIS, Manuel said.
Affected residents can report missing mail at 1-877-876-2455 or at https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/contactUs/filecomplaint.aspx.
