Firefighters put out blaze quickly — once they found the tree

By Deborah Swearingen

A tree burned in Mount Falcon Park on Wednesday evening after lightning struck it.

It did not take long to put out — Indian Hills Fire Chief Emery Carson estimated about 15 minutes — but it did take some time to locate because it had just gotten dark. Carson said his team searched for the fire for more than an hour.

Indian Hills Fire Rescue responded with Jeffco Open Space assisting in the search.
