A small wildfire that was burning in the State Wildlife Area near Evans Ranch just west of Evergreen is 100 percent contained after firefighters from Evergreen Fire/Rescue and the U.S. Forest Service hiked in a half-mile to battle it.

The fire, which was started by lightning Friday afternoon, ultimately burned an area 20-feet by 20-feet in size before being contained at 4:30 p.m. According to Stacee Martin, spokeswoman for EFR, five firefighters are on scene and a hand crew from the U.S. Forest Service worked to bring the fire under control. No structures were threatened and the potential for the fire to spread was minimal, Martin said.
