One Dem candidate remains in race to run against Szabo

Marti Smith of Arvada awaits committee's approval

By Vicky Gits

Marti Smith of Arvada is the only remaining Democratic candidate seeking to run for county commissioner against incumbent Republican Libby Szabo.

However, Smith still must be approved by a vote of the Democratic vacancy committee, which will meet at 6 p.m. April 28 at the Arvada Center for the Arts.

The vote was originally scheduled for April 13 but was canceled because there were not enough attendees to constitute a quorum, said Cheryl Cheney, chair of the Jeffco Democratic Party. Officials were not allowed to seat proxies, according to Democratic Party rules.
