Mt. Evans scores high in national home health assessment

-A A +A

If Mt. Evans Home Health and Hospice looks good up close and personal, it looks even better by comparison.

To find out how much better, visit www.medicare.gov, click on the “Home Health Compare”  page, and see how the mountain area’s nonprofit stacks up. The results are striking — Mount Evans outperforms the vast majority of home health organizations, public and private.

“The results show what we have always known,” says Mt. Evans’ director Kathy Engel. “We provide exceptional care.”

Under the “Quality of Patient Care” tab, Mt. Evans exceeds local and national averages in 17 of 22 categories. For example, Engel’s staff scored 100 percent at promptly addressing patients’ pain.

Particularly strong in the area of occupational therapy, 72 percent of Mt. Evans’ patients showed improvement at getting in and out of bed. In educating patients and their families about their drug prescriptions, Mt. Evans received another perfect 100, compared to the national average of 92. And regarding the number of clients requiring unplanned emergency-room treatment, Mt. Evans was well below its peers, with only 7 percent of its patients so treated, compared with 12 percent nationally.

“In every combination we looked at,” Engel says, “Mt. Evans shines.”
