After serving as interim president for the past two months, Betsy Hays is officially at the helm of the Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce.

Last week the chamber’s board of directors selected Hays from a number of candidates for the full-time position, which includes responsibilities as CEO for the organization.

In her leadership role Hays says she is focusing on serving chamber members and promoting Evergreen businesses.

“I’m excited to do that,” she said. “I’m all about relationship building. … I’ve spent a lot of time meeting face to face with members.”

There are several business centers in Evergreen, including downtown Evergreen, Bergen Park and El Rancho, Hays noted.

“The chamber’s role is to work with all businesses,” she said.

The chamber also is a central point of contact for visitors and businesses outside the community, Hays said. Recently she has been working with an area Realtor who is planning a tour of luxury homes in Evergreen on May 31.

To make information more easily accessible to those within and outside the community, the chamber is launching a new website that is user-friendly, she added.

Hays spends much of her time planning and organizing chamber events and fund-raisers, including the upcoming Taste of Evergreen that will feature cuisine of local restaurants.

In selecting Hays as leader, Lisa Austin and Kevin Ruble, co-chairs of the chamber’s board of directors, noted that she is well-known in the community.

Four years ago, Hays served as the membership and advertising director for the chamber — an experience that makes her well-suited for her present position, Hays said.

She also has served as development director for the Mountain Area Land Trust and as event manager for the Evergreen Downtown Business Association.

Hays is active in the Evergreen community, serving as president of the Evergreen High School PTA, president of the EHS Soccer Booster Club and as a Girl Scout leader. She is also a graduate of Leadership Evergreen.

Hays has lived in Evergreen since 1995 with her husband, John, and three children, Morgan, Jack and Katie.

Taste of Evergreen offers One Bite Challenge

This year’s Taste of Evergreen sponsored by the Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce will have a flavorful twist.

The event on May 8 at the Evergreen Lake House will feature the One Bite Challenge, which gives local restaurants the opportunity to showcase specialty foods and attendees the chance to vote on them. Bite-size samplings of foods will be offered by vendors at the event, along with other items.

People's choice Best of Bite awards will be given to vendors participating in the Taste of Evergreen, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

Sponsors and vendors for the event include The Wild Game, Robyn’s Nest Catering, Stagecoach Sports Grills, Bistro Colorado, Tuscany Tavern and the Hiwan Golf Club.

Tickets for the event are $25 per person and can be purchased at www.evergreenchamber.org or by calling 303-674-3412. A special offer of two tickets for $40 is available before the event.

Ticket prices include all appetizers and two drink tickets. Musical entertainment will also add to the event, which raises funds to market local businesses, events and nonprofit organizations.
