Firefighters from West Metro Fire are mopping up at Red Rocks Friday afternoon after a lightning strike ignited a small grassfire near the concert venue.

According to Ronda Scholting, spokeswoman for West Metro Fire, the fire burned about 1 ½ acres and led to the temporary closure of the entrances to Red Rocks Amphitheatre before it was extinguished at 5 p.m.

While the department requested assistance from Evergreen Fire/Rescue, Scholting said West Metro was ultimately able to tackle the blaze on its own.
