One person has died after being shot in Evergreen on Sunday afternoon.

According to Jenny Fulton, spokeswoman for the Jeffco Sheriff's Office, the department received a call at 1:40 p.m. Sunday about a disturbance in the 7000 block of Highway 73. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials found a man with life-threatening injuries after a shooting. The unidentified victim was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood where he was pronounced dead.

While Fulton declined to say whether authorities have arrested anyone in connection with the shooting, she confirmed that authorities were interviewing witnesses and others about the incident. As of 6:25 p.m., investigators were interviewing a person of interest, according to a tweet from the Jeffco Sheriff's Office.

While Fulton didn't have any further details about the incident or the victim, she said investigators are conducting a "death investigation" and hadn't yet determined whether the incident was an accident, self-defense or a homicide.

Both Fulton and the Sheriff's Office stressed that the public is not in any danger.
