2015 Evergreen Cougars boys swimming capsule preview

-A A +A

Marc Rios

Swimmers to watch:

Key losses:
Isaac Hellard, Seth Hendrix
Outlook: Rios, a newcomer to coaching in Colorado, takes over for Jeff Armstrong, who resigned earlier this year to devote more time to the Evergreen-based Hurricanes club program, where he is head coach. Rios was named coach on Feb. 23, the first day of practices. He inherits a team that lost just one senior, Hellard. But Hendrix, who would be a sophomore, moved to Tennessee with his family. The Cougars, who swam as Conifer for the past several years despite most of the team members attending Evergreen, are a bit of an unknown commodity. Conifer finished 17th at state in the Jeffco 4A division in 2014. Christensen swam on the 400 freestyle relay team that was 14th at state and Debrunner was a member of the 15th-place 200 medley relay team and qualified in the butterfly. "The team's goals are to help each and every swimmer reach their potential, and to have fun and enjoy the process,'' Rios said.
Season opener:
  March 7, D'Evelyn dual, Carmody Rec Center, 4 p.m.

May 15-16, VMAC, Thornton.
