  • Mohr picks up first win at...

DENVER — Freshman Samantha Kisiel scored a team-high 13 points, while senior Blair Bokelman scored 12 on 6-of-10 shooting as Evergreen won its first game of the season 47-31 over host Montbello on Dec. 1.
    Kisiel added 14 rebounds.
The win was the first for head coach Amy Mohr, who took over this season.
Evergreen held the Lady Warriors without a field goal in the first quarter to take an early 8-1 lead. The advantage was 21-13 at halftime and 33-23 after three quarters.

  • Lane, Cougars thump Eagles

The Evergreen Cougars, quite simply, couldn’t have started the 2012-13 season off much better than they did Nov. 28.
Behind a 22-2 outburst in the first quarter, the Cougars rolled to a 78-15 thrashing of 3A William Smith at Evergreen High School.
Evergreen led 46-6 at halftime and 64-10 after three quarters.

  • EHS’ 200 freestyle relay sets...

    By Will Petersen
    For the Courier
You never want to call a race too early, especially if there’s a chance you could be wrong. But sometimes you know pretty quickly that it’s over. That was the case in the 200-yard freestyle relay Nov. 30 at the Wulf Recreation Center for the Evergreen girls ‘A’ team.

  • Cougars’ Kay gets season off on...

CONIFER — Jake Kay walked off the mat exhausted. He knew that his opponent — Conifer’s Hunter Shively — was just as tired.
“Both of us were going really hard that whole match maybe up to the last 10 seconds. By then both of us knew that it was pretty much over,” Kay said. “That was a tough one.”

  • Senior point guard embraces role...

When Evergreen head boys basketball coach Scott Haebe sees Colin Elmgreen out on the floor he sees a little of himself. Maybe not so much literally, but figuratively.
Elmgreen, as Evergreen’s point guard, has to be that captain every time the Cougars run up and down the court and Haebe knows that. He is the catalyst who makes Evergreen’s offense run.

  • Junior Elmgreen stands to be EHS...

Erin Dobey. Graduated. Hailey Newhall. Graduated. Kylee Russell. Graduated.
Right there is three-fourth of Evergreen’s top four scorers from the 2011-12 season. Then there’s Emily Elmgreen. The lone returning scorer of the bunch has a bull’s-eye on her as the Lady Cougars’ leader-in-waiting entering the 2012-13 season.
Elmgreen, unquestionably, is expected to be the catalyst of Evergreen’s program this season, first-year head coach Amy Mohr said.

  • Fall sports all-conference: boys...

  • EHS faces issue with experience...

As Evergreen’s lone returning 4A state qualifier from the 2011-12 wrestling season, Jake Kay took it upon himself to be a leader for this year’s squad. It was nothing for the senior 126 pounder to set up two-a-day practices during the offseason, even on the first day of school back in August. After all, he knows a little something about success.

  • Ready to take the next step

Sometimes a dream starts out as one person’s aspiration but turns into the hopes and goals of everyone around them. Tears of pride streamed down the faces of friends, family, teachers and coaches as Evergreen High School senior Lexie Malazdrewicz signed her letter-of-intent to swim for the University of Southern California on Nov. 14.
Her dream to be an elite swimmer had outgrown her and transformed into a dream of an entire community who has stood behind her and watched her grow.
