  • Cougars, Lobos compete at state

    Both the Conifer and Evergreen tennis teams had athletes qualify for the state tournament. 

    The Lobos had several advance to the Class 3A tournament, including regional champion Hailey Janson.

    In No. 1 singles play, Janson fell in her opening match in two sets to Mae Thorp of Steamboat Springs. Janson then lost in the playback round to Julia Giltner of Holy Family in two sets.

  • Cougars advance to Elite Eight

    The three-hour drive home from Palisade was a little easier for the Evergreen baseball team on Saturday.

    The Cougars won the Palisade regional, topping Fort Morgan 16-5 in the championship game.

    Evergreen defeated top-seeded Palisade in the playoff opener 3-2.

    With the wins, the Cougars advance to the Class 4A state tournament starting on Friday.

    ARVADA — After watching Evergreen beat his team along with 5A Jeffco League power Chatfield and Littleton in a quadrangular meet in late March, D’Evelyn boys swimming coach Mark Collings alerted the rest of the conference’s 4A teams.

  • Evergreen advances to 4A...

    Evergreen senior Kate Athenour had gone 15 games this year searching for her first goal. On Wednesday the search ended during the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs as Evergreen topped Discovery Canyon 4-0.

    With 26 minutes remaining in the first half, Athenour’s scoring drought ended, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

  • Cougars to host boys golf meeting

    Boys entering Evergreen or Clear Creek high schools or who are home-schooled are invited to an informational meeting to learn about the Evergreen boys golf team.

    The meeting will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the Evergreen Middle School library. EHS head golf coach Mike Kuzava will be available to answer questions and provide information about the team.

    Kuzava will discuss tryout dates, locations and times, expectations for the team, summer tournament opportunities and logistics of the golf season.

    LAKEWOOD— After 37 events, the Evergreen girls and boys track teams were near the top of the standings in a competitive Jeffco Elite meet on Thursday at Jeffco Stadium

    The Cougars battled track powers Green Mountain and Valor Christian among others.

    GOLDEN— Natalie Holley continues to prove she’s one of the best golfers in Class 4A. The senior from Evergreen added another first-place finish to her season on Wednesday at the Ashley Forey tournament.

    Golfers faced brutal conditions with low temperatures and a rain/snow mix that spread through the foothills in the morning hours. Despite the conditions, athletes made the most of the day for a successful outing. 

  • Lobos finish second at 3A...

    LITTLETON— For two hours, Conifer’s Hailey Janson and D’Evlyn’s Julia Molnar battled point-for-point with a regional championship on the line. As the dust settled, it was Janson who came out on top in two sets (6-4, 6-4).

    “I was hoping for this all season,” said Janson. “In the past I have been super close to winning regionals and ended up losing, but this year I just kept thinking it’s going to be my year I’m going to win.”

  • Conifer falls to Rocky Mountain

     Five goals wouldn’t be enough for the Conifer girls lacrosse team as it fell 17-5 against Rocky Mountain on Friday night.

    Both teams did their best to fight snowy conditions, which brought more than a foot of fresh powder to the Conifer area that night. The Lobos were led by sophomore Lena Heaney, who finished the game with two goals on five shots.
