Early birders flock to Evergreen Lake to hear dawn chorus

“Conk-la-ree! Conk-la-ree!” called the red-winged blackbirds perched on cattails in the marsh at Evergreen Lake on Sunday morning.

 

Perhaps these birds with their colorful markings knew they were participating in the International Dawn Chorus Day. Members of Evergreen Audubon who planned the local gathering at the lake were keenly aware of the event and its significance in the avian community.

“The first Sunday in May, birders from all over the world get together,” said Brad Andres, president of Evergreen Audubon. 

Tenney cards 81, punches ticket to state

LAKEWOOD — Evergreen’s Madison Tenney’s golf ball went swimming twice in the May 6 Class 4A Metro West Regional golf meet at Fox Hollow Golf Club. Had that not happened, she might have well finished fifth among the tournaments 76 contestants.

Sound decisions on memorial, recall

It’s been a pretty good couple of weeks for decisions by and about Evergreen’s primary governmental entities. The ill-advised attempt to recall the board of directors of the Evergreen Fire Protection District was snuffed out by a landslide vote, and the Evergreen Park and Recreation District board kept the faith with the American Legion and other supporters of the Buchanan Park veterans memorial by approving a statue to complete the memorial.
