Group seeking ways to convert love of Evergreen into local spending

“I think we would all agree that people who live in Evergreen love it,” said Steve Sumner, director of the Center for the Arts Evergreen. “How do we get them into the shops?”

 

Gathered around a table at the arts center last Wednesday, Sumner and others in a focus group were immersed in a discussion on ways to promote Evergreen to its residents.

Third annual Veterans' Rendezvous is this Saturday

Veterans in need of assistance will have an opportunity to learn about services they can access at the third annual Veterans’ Rendezvous in Conifer on Saturday.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Denver regional office and other state, county and local service and health-care providers will once again offer consultation, information and opportunities for veterans, who can sign up on the spot for VA benefits and services.

Essay contest gives kids a chance to be marshals in Rodeo Parade

Youngsters who enter an Evergreen Rodeo Parade essay contest will have a chance to be selected as a grand marshal for this year’s event, with the theme Under the Rodeo Big Top.

Six children ages 5 to 12 will be chosen from contestants’ essays on “Why I would like to be a parade grand marshal in the Evergreen Rodeo Parade.”

EHS runs out of rallies at district tournament

GREELEY — The Evergreen Cougars rallied once to reach the 4A District 2 baseball finals, but couldn’t rally a second time to reach the eight-team double-elimination state tournament on May 12.
A day after inclement weather postponed their district opener against Coronado, the Cougars rallied for three runs in the final two innings to win 8-7.

BOYS LACROSSE
Evergreen ousted in opening round of state playoffs by Aspen
ASPEN — Evergreen’s third straight trip to the boys lacrosse state playoffs ended like the past two — in the first round.
Host Aspen scored a 12-6 first-round victory over the Cougars on May 8 in the 4A state playoffs.
The loss ended Evergreen’s season with a 6-11 record.

Spring’s arrival brings new growth to aspen, alder trees

It is so nice to have some warm spring days, and now we are promised summer temperatures this week. Just to go out in my yard and see green fields and robins looking for worms, and hear green-tailed towhees and house wrens singing is a tonic for my winter-shriveled soul.
