I live off Buffalo Park Road.
On June 3, I received a Level 3 alert call to evacuate immediately, and I did exactly that.
Now, I am not complaining about the fire department or the emergency-notification call. But something must be done about the evacuation process.

Jeffco has decided to put the brakes on retail marijuana businesses in unincorporated areas of the county.

The county commissioners voted 3-0 to prohibit any retail marijuana businesses from setting up shop. The ban includes retail sales and growing operations, along with testing and packaging facilities.

Former Evergreen resident George Goldbach spent more than 50 years of his life in fire service, including three years as a member of the Evergreen Fire Protection District board.

He died on May 24, 2013, at the age of 76.

A New York native, Goldbach began his extensive career in professional fire service as a member of the New York City Fire Department in the 1970s. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant before moving to Lakewood in the 1980s.

Bike and ski racers now have a place in Bergen Park to buy their equipment.

A Culture of Speed closed its doors in Dumont and opened a shop just east of the Whippletree at 1342 County Road 65. The shop operates in the front of the building, while JR’s Landscaping operates in the back.

Owner Harry Rhulen, who lives in Soda Creek, said the move to Bergen Park was a no-brainer.

Ocean adventure swells in first...

Scuba diving off the coast of California inspired Ryan Lockwood to write his first novel, a thriller set in the vast ocean.

 

“I’d always wanted to write a novel. I really just dove into it,” said Lockwood, who grew up in Evergreen.

Lockwood’s book, titled “Below,” is officially hitting the shelves at area bookstores next week. 

“It’s based on a real-world current event,” said Lockwood.

Brightly hued images of the West on china plates are the centerpiece of a fund-raising effort that the Center for the Arts Evergreen is coordinating.

 

For the third year, the china plates featuring art of area students are being auctioned during Weekend in the West, an annual art show and sale at Evergreen Fine Art. Funds raised from the plate sales will be donated to the arts center.

“We turn right around and the give the money to local teachers,” said Steve Sumner, CAE executive director.

EAA exhibit soars with...

The Evergreen Artists Association promotes the visual arts in our mountain community with art shows, member activities, scholarships, workshops, programs and the annual Evergreen Fine Arts Festival. On Friday, May 31, the EAA opened its annual member show at the Main Street Fine Art Gallery in downtown Evergreen. The show is called “Birds of Our Mountain Area,” and features artwork that was inspired by and includes reference to birds from the Evergreen area.
