    Sorry about the anti-semitism

    The Church of the Transfiguration wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the schoolchildren and their families affected by anti-Semitism in mountain area schools, as reported by the Canyon Courier.
    As Episcopalians and Christians, Judaism is our spiritual heritage. Our Lord was a Jew. We learned in a Seder led by Beth Evergreen’s Rabbi Jamie that we tell many of the same stories and we sing many of the same songs.

  • Transparency of school board seems to be lacking

    It’s awfully easy to criticize your political adversaries. It’s much harder to criticize your political allies. And when it comes to policy issues that is eminently reasonable. But when it comes to process and your allies violate the same important public policy principles you’ve lambasted your opponents for employing, there is an obligation to be consistent.

    I can pinpoint the date like it was yesterday. In actuality, it was May 1. That was the day that e-mails started to sprinkle in to my inbox with comments, letters to the editors and columns. It was the day that Jeffco Public Schools announced Dr. Jason E. Glass as its one and only finalist for its superintendent position.
    That’s when the floodgates opened.

    In a recent Courier column, John Newkirk, one of the former Jeffco school board members, recently recalled by 65 percent of the voters, made inaccurate comparisons with former and current school boards regarding the hiring of the county’s superintendent.
