Trump’s decision detrimental to the United States
    Editor:
This is in response to Mr. Akin’s letter from Aug. 16. I could not disagree with you more, sir.
All the things that Greg Dobbs referred to are true, and the only person who should be apologizing for them is President Trump, who has himself by his actions and words demeaned the office of the president more than anyone thought possible.

Evergreen Jazz Festival is a premier event
    Editor:

Following the 16th edition of the Evergreen Jazz Festival, I am moved to write you and through your publication reach your readers in our community. I am a resident of Genesee and previously a resident of St. Mary’s. The Evergreen Jazz Festival is well-known to jazz fans across the U.S. because it is one of the premier festivals of its kind in North America. I think perhaps it is not as well-known here in Evergreen.

Treatment of handicapped brother was uncalled for
    Editor:
My brother, Peter, is 50 years old and severely handicapped. Because walking is difficult and painful for Peter, ever since Buchanan Rec Center’s opening in 2003 he’s enjoyed the important monthly ritual of “swimming” laps in its pool for about 10 minutes per visit, which is the limit of his endurance. On July 6, he and his sister, Diane, respectfully waited more than 20 minutes for a lane to become available, and then began his — admittedly slow — workout.

Trump needs to ‘drain the swamp’
    Editor:

It appears that our national government resembles a bunch of naughty boys who absolutely cannot have anyone except another naughty boy/girl as president possessing all the power it represents.

    On consistent alert for wildfires
    Editor:

Wonder why we had a snowstorm?
Cloud-seeding is over for the season. Cloud-seeding runs from November to the end of March. Now if we are lucky this year, maybe we will get some snow for a month or so to regenerate our wells and prevent some of our fires. I doubt that our insurance will be lowered though.

    Trump’s ‘opinions’ are misinformed
    Editor:
Jim Akin had an interesting take in his letter titled “Citizen Trump is nearly expressing his opinion.” I congratulate him for his creativity in coming up with a new term to compete with lies and alternative facts to describe Trump’s questionable utterances.

Neglected properties in downtown Evergreen are a detriment to our town and its businesses

    Editor:

We all live in this wonderful Evergreen for a variety of reasons, and we take pride in it. We support our community through the 120 nonprofits, organizations, our surrounding parks and lake, and we take care of it.

    Most of us, anyway.

    Thoughts on the election

    Editor:

We are writing on Wednesday, Nov. 9. We are very happy. The candidate we supported for almost two years is now president-elect. We are part of the “common folk.” We knew people wanted a better economy, more opportunities, not more elitism, not more racism or gender bias.

Vote for Pete Weir, a DA with integrity, compassion

    Editor:

It is both my privilege and honor to support Pete Weir for re-election as Jeffco’s district attorney. I first met Pete in the darkest days following Jessica Ridgeway’s kidnapping and homicide, and I witnessed first hand Pete’s leadership and compassion, as well as his unwavering resolve in the pursuit of justice for Jessica.
