Evergreen opened up the 2009 baseball season with a 9-2 victory over John F. Kennedy on March 6, and followed that up with a 7-1 victory over Sterling a day later.
Against Kennedy, the Cougars broke open a 1-1 tie with six runs in the fourth inning and tacked on two more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. In the Sterling game, which, like the Kennedy game, was held at All-Star Park in Lakewood, the Cougars again used a big fourth inning to their advantage. Evergreen, which led 3-1, scored four runs in the frame to take a commanding lead. They finished with 10 hits.
