On Thursday, March 6, a whiff of acrid smoke prompted a partial evacuation of the Bergen Village Shopping Center.
About 10 a.m., employees of Countrywide Home Loans detected the telltale metallic scent of an electrical fire. As most personnel fled the office, one employee dialed 911 and, at the urging of Evergreen Fire/Rescue dispatch, activated the alarm system, resulting in the general evacuation of the two-story commercial building.
