  • Park district's proposed 2013 budget reflects flat revenues

    Board members took a first look at the proposed Evergreen Park and Recreation District budget for 2013 during their Aug. 28 meeting at Kittredge Community Bible Church.

     

    With property-tax revenues projected to stay flat in the coming year, the draft budget focuses on basic operational expenses and modest capital improvement projects.

    The projected total income for the park district in 2013 is $5,201,282 — a decrease of $62,917 over the current year. The budget draft reflects $4,608,847 in total expenses for 2013.

  • Polis discusses federal budget, taxes with mountain residents

    U.S. Rep. Jared Polis focused on issues relating to the federal budget, tax reform and human rights during an informal gathering at Java Groove in Evergreen last Thursday morning.

    Democrat Polis is seeking a third term in the 2nd Congressional District, which now includes Conifer and Evergreen.

    Polis said it’s difficult to predict what will happen in Congress regarding the federal budget and income taxes. Congress could decide to delay a decision until the first of next year rather than take action before the election, he said.

  • ‘60s grads recall good times at EHS

    Two couples who attended the reunion picnic for Evergreen High School’s 1960s graduating classes on Saturday are celebrating other major milestones.

    The four also are celebrating more than 45 years of marriage. The couples started dating in high school and got married not long after.

    Don Osborn and his wife, Diane Marino Osborn, both from the class of ’63, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on Aug. 27. They now live in Estes Park.

  • Echo Mountain Ski Area purchased by ski club

    Echo Mountain Ski Area was purchased Aug. 28 by Nora Pykkonen, founder of the Front Range Ski Club.
    The 226-acre Clear Creek ski resort sold for an undisclosed amount and will no longer be open to the general public.
    Echo will now operate under the umbrella of the ski club, which focuses on training children in ski racing.
    The Front Range Ski Club website states that because it will not be open to the public, snowmaking, grooming and terrain cab be tailored to challenge the club's skiers.

    BOYS GOLF
    Peterson, Cougars lead charge at Hyland Hills Jeffco meet
    WESTMINSTER
    — Kyle Peterson carded a tourament-best 71 and Evergreen had five golfers in the top 15 en route to a 12-stroke victory at the 4A Jeffco League match at Hyland Hills golf course on Aug. 22.
    Evergreen, as a team, scored a 316 total, finishing 12 strokes ahead of second-place D’Evelyn. Wheat Ridge was a distant third with a 359 total.
