    The Evergreen Park and Recreation District board has approved a resolution permitting the display of a menorah and other religious icons during holidays at Evergreen Lake Park.
    Before voting on the resolution along with two policies limiting religious displays at district parks at the April 24 meeting, board members listened to comments from community members and offered differing opinions.

    Upper Bear Creek was once a playground for the rich and famous. In the early to mid-1900s, movie stars and wealthy Denverites enjoyed luxurious vacations at resorts and homes in what was then known as “Cadillac Canyon.”
    An exhibit at the Hiwan Homestead Museum opening May 8 will tell the story of Evergreen’s historic past as a haven for affluent guests through displays of historic photos and artifacts.

    Many of the people who come through the doors of Evergreen Christian Outreach seeking help are in difficult circumstances because of job loss, said Mary Petrich, volunteer coordinator for the organization.
    EChO offers short-term assistance to those in financial crisis by providing them food, clothing and household goods.

    Camel Heights residents will be coping with road closures and possible water service interruptions while the Evergreen Metropolitan District makes improvements to the water system in their area.
    However, EMD managers said they will keep residents informed and will assist them with transportation during an informational meeting on April 27 at the district office.

  • Celebrating a new place to play at Arrowhead Park

    “We’re so excited,” Indian Hills resident Christine McKinnon said while watching her 2-year-old son, Nicholas, play at Arrowhead Park on April 28.

     

    Nicholas and other youngsters were enjoying the Kittredge park with its newly installed equipment during the Evergreen Park and Recreation District’s opening celebration. Children climbed on friendly looking bear statues, tried out a rope course and glided down the shiny sliding board in the early-afternoon sun.

  • Track & field leaders

    Following is a list of current qualifiers, as listed by MaxPreps, for the state track and field championships, scheduled for May 17-19 at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood. Only the top 18 qualifiers by the deadline of May 12 will qualify for state in their respective classification and category.
