THORNTON — The risk for Bethel Lindsley was certainly worth the gain.

Had it been your run of the mill regular-season meet, Lindsley likely wouldn’t have competed with her injured shoulder.

But, this was state, and being a senior, it was her last time to compete on the sport’s biggest stage. She also knew that if the Cougars were to realize their dream of winning a state title, she had to be out on the floor.

She was there, and she certainly didn’t disappoint.

In the race for House District 25, first-time candidate Cheri Gerou of Evergreen won 49 percent of the vote, or 22,408 votes, compared to Andrew Scripter of Arvada, with 18,131 votes, or 39 percent, in the unofficial final total as of Wednesday morning.

Gerou, a Republican, was reluctant to declare a victory until every vote was counted.

“I want to see that check mark by my name first,” she said Tuesday night.

Fewer teachers, less new technology and a virtual freeze on new construction and remodeling are in store for Jeffco schools in the wake of the failure of ballot issues 3A and 3B on Nov. 4.

The companion bond and mill-levy issues were defeated by narrow 3 percent margins, indicating how deeply the county was divided. It was a stark reversal compared to 2004, in which similar school measures passed with 60 percent of the vote.

The Evergreen Park and Recreation District will present its draft 2009 budget at its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Buchanan Park Recreation Center. The public is welcome to attend and to make comments.

John Skeel, executive director, will present the budget information and discuss activities for 2009.

The draft budget is the product of many work sessions involving the district management and the board of directors. The deadline for the final budget submission to the state is Dec. 15.
