The Jeffco Board of County Commissioners selected Peggy Catlin to serve as Regional Transportation Director for District N.

She will replace Tina Francone, who resigned the position after she was appointed to replace Commissioner Don Rosier in late January.

Catlin, who was officially appointed at Tuesday’s board hearing, will serve until January, when the winner of the November election is sworn in.

A CDOT contractor died after falling in Clear Creek Canyon on Tuesday afternoon.

Jaime Sarinana-Herrera, 40, was part of a crew doing rockfall mitigation work along U.S. 6 when the accident occurred. Sarinana-Herrera fell between 50-70 feet.

The scene of the incident was initially investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The specific cause of the accident will be determined during a future OSHA investigation.

The rockfall work included rock-scaling efforts, rock anchors and adding 285,000 square feet of wire mesh.

 Jeffco and Clear Creek County residents should strap on their hiking shoes and grab a shovel because there’s trails to be built and hiked at Floyd Hill Park this summer.

Martha Tableman, Clear Creek County open space coordinator, said Clear Creek is working with various volunteer organizations to schedule trail-building projects at Floyd Hill through August.

The park, which was acquired by the two counties last April, currently has about 1.3 miles of trails, but preliminary plans are to build more over the next few years.

Concerns in the Bailey community about a lack of school security in the Platte Canyon School District were recently met with reassurances from both district officials and Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener, as well as promises to provide more safety training for teachers, staff and other district employees.
