  • Red Rocks Elementary celebrates Veterans Day

    For students at Red Rocks Elementary School, last Friday was a day of remembrance as students, teachers and community members gathered for the school’s annual Veterans Day celebration.

    After a formal flag ceremony with an honor guard posting of the flag outside of the school, various veterans stopped by classrooms to share stories of their time in the military.

  • Morrison considering possible solar garden

    The town of Morrison may one day receive power from a community solar garden.

    After hearing a presentation from Oak Leaf Energy Partners of Denver in a Nov. 7 town meeting, the board of directors decided to move forward with the data-collection process. The company has been around for about 12 years and has completed approximately 70 projects similar to one it proposed for Morrison.

    While Flights Wine Café is not closing its doors for good, the Morrison business is saying goodbye to the quaint and quirky cottage it currently calls home.

  • Rosier to resign as Jeffco commissioner

    Jeffco Commissioner Don Rosier is resigning from the Board of County Commissioners in early January to serve as general manager of the Sterling Ranch Community Authority Board, the county announced Wednesday afternoon.
    Rosier was elected commissioner of District 3, which includes South Jeffco, in 2010. He was re-elected in 2014. He is term-limited in 2018.
    According to the county, the vacant position will be filled per state statute by the      vacancy committee of the Jefferson County Republican Party.

  • MRC honored for professional development activities

    The Mountain Resource Center in Conifer has been recognized by the Colorado Nonprofit Association as one of the first nonprofits in the state to achieve the association’s Excellence in Nonprofit Principles and Practices Recognition — a commendation awarded when a nonprofit sends its members to trainings on nine of 10 topics listed in the CNA’s handbook for “nonprofit excellence,” including advocacy, governance, communications, fund development and more.

  • Boy band performs at Conifer High School pep rally

    In the weeks leading up to Friday’s pep rally, Conifer High School students kept hearing that something big was coming. There were hints on social media and posters in the hallways.

    Each school day, a song played over the P.A. system, and some students began to make the connection.

    On Nov. 7, it was officially announced: boy band In Real Life would perform at the pep rally.

  • Jeffco to modify major roadway plan, including Conifer’s Main Street

    Jeffco staff is looking to realign a possible addition to Conifer’s Main Street, which is classified as a major thoroughfare by the county.

    The section of the road doesn’t exist yet and would likely have to be put in by a developer if the area continues growing, explained Steve Durian, Jeffco director of transportation and engineering.

  • Elk Creek Elementary pays tribute to local veterans

    “I am a Warrior and a member of a team. ... I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade. ... I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

    “I am an American Soldier.”

    Students, staff and community members of Elk Creek Elementary honored veterans Thursday afternoon with the school’s annual Veterans Day Play. This year, the play’s theme was the Soldier’s Creed, which the cast members — many in military-based costumes — recited during the performance.
