Students at Wilmot Elementary are marching to the beat of different drums — and other percussion instruments, too.
Each month, professional drummer Dean Oldencott of Evergreen visits music classes to take students on a percussion journey — beginning with tribal drums, and moving on to marimbas and other instruments — and he’s teaching them progressively more complex rhythms.
He is the school’s artist-in-residence this year, and rather than teach students for one block of time, he’s spread his teaching over the entire year.
