  • Business Beat: Chamber chief sees signs of life in local economy

    For Evergreen businesses, the economic downturn over the past couple of years has had a silver lining.

    “I’m really noticing that our businesses are starting to work together more to promote themselves and promote the community,” said Melanie Nuchols, president of the Evergreen Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our businesses are working together, and our nonprofits are working together and joining forces.”

    While Evergreen businesses and organizations worked together before the recession, the cooperation has increased substantially, she said.

  • Home and Design Center makes room for consignment

    The Rocky Mountain Home and Design Center across from Ski Country Antiques has opened a consignment department, Consign of the Times, on the second floor in 8,000 square feet of light-filled warehouse space at the Floyd Hill exit off I-70.

    Consign of the Times is the second consignment furniture store to open in the Evergreen/Idaho Springs area in the last six months, along with It’s New To Me, which opened last October in the former Blue Spruce Market on Bergen Parkway.

  • Business Spotlight: Consignment furniture store fills niche in local design scene

    New or used? It’s hard to tell when you first walk into an unusual new furniture shop off Bergen Parkway.

    It’s New To Me opened in October in the space formerly occupied by Blue Spruce Market at 1552 Bergen Parkway, next to the Wood Cellar.

    “We only accept things that are in great condition and only quality furniture,” said co-owner Mary Boland, an artist-turned-entrepreneur.

  • Former Tanglewoods owner now taking a frank approach to sales

    A new hot-dog guy has come to Evergreen.

    Tom Becker has planted his rolling hot-dog cart — Tom’s Daily Dog — near Safeway. He loves to chat with customers, and buying a hot dog from him is quite entertaining.

    He opened his stand on Feb. 3, and business has been pretty good so far. It’s just a matter of letting folks know they can get a simple hot dog with mustard or a fancy hot dog with all the fixin’s, including caramelized sauerkraut.

  • Business Beat: Dick's Hickory Dock to be back on clock in 2010

    If David Mot has his way, Dick’s Hickory Dock in Kittredge will reopen in late spring.

    Mot, who purchased the property at an auction in mid-December, is excited about the prospect of opening the restaurant, which had been a Kittredge landmark for years.

    He has lots of ideas about what to do with the place, and he’s looking for someone to help him make his vision a reality. However, if he doesn’t find someone to manage the restaurant, he vows he’ll do it himself.

  • Lakeshore Caf to reopen under new owners

    It’s definitely a family affair for Roxanne Thomas and her children, who have bought Lakeshore Café and are reopening it next week.

    Roxanne and her children, Alexis and Chris, will keep most of the breakfast and lunch menu familiar to Evergreen residents, plus they will be adding a few surprises. They will add some healthier options, plus Roxanne will be cooking her favorite recipes: biscuits and gravy and corned beef hash.

  • Rib Crib will ride again

    The Rib Crib signed an agreement Dec. 21 to lease the space formerly occupied by Sammy’s Last Cast Tavern and the Evergreen Sports Grill in the Tanoa Marketplace Center at Stagecoach Boulevard and Evergreen Parkway.

    The new restaurant will open in March under the name Stagecoach Sports Grill, assuming the owners succeed in obtaining a liquor license.

    The location seats about 150 people and has 1,000 square feet more space than the Rib Crib, said longtime co-owner Troy Tyus. He plans to use the new space to bring in live music on a regular basis.

  • Business Beat: Evergreen Kennel expands, adds doggie suites

    The barking you hear at Evergreen Kennel and Grooming has a happier sound now that the buildings have been renovated.

    Owner Anik Egloff has renovated the 2,200-square-foot building next to the main kennel at 30596 Bryant Drive. She has added a 700-square-foot indoor doggie day-care room, which came in handy during the recent week of frigid cold weather.

    And the other side of the building has been converted into overnight suites with tiled walls, windows, and pet cots with sheepskin coverings.

  • Business Beat: Furniture consignment store opens near Bergen Park

    Evergreen once again has a furniture consignment store.

    It’s New to Me opens this week in the Hiwan Barn on Evergreen Parkway. Owners Mary Boland and Kevin Bryan have 2,000 square feet filled with furniture, lighting, art accessories and rugs.

    They have gotten the ball rolling by stocking the store with gently used items from their interior design business. They are looking for more furniture to sell on consignment.

  • El Rancho Trading Post moving to Web only

    El Rancho Trading Post, a family-run business for more than 23 years in the Evergreen community, is leaving bricks-and-mortar and moving exclusively to its online location, www.elranchotrading.com.

    Owner Cam Goodman and daughter Ché Rippinger have seen the retail Southwestern business change and develop over the years. Cam Goodman has recently experienced significant health setbacks that made returning to work less likely.
