  • James Lee 'Jim' Lovejoy, 70

    Jim Lovejoy, 70, was born in Meadville, Pa., in 1938. He was a devoted family man, known for his kidding and playful attitude and his love for good jokes, especially irreverent ones. He was always quick to strike up a conversation with a stranger and thus cultivated friendships wherever he went.

  • Florent David Bailly, 75

    Pastor F. David Bailly, 75, was born in Antimano, Venezuela, to missionary parents on Nov. 28, 1932. David died on June 28, 2008, at home in Pagosa Springs following a long illness.

    David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary; two daughters, Deborah and Rebecca; three grandchildren, David, Rachel and Courtney, all of Colorado; and a sister, Elizabeth Glenn of Friendswood, Texas.

  • Shirley M. Arrington, 79

    Shirley M. Arrington of Evergreen died July 4, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She was 79.

    She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Independence, Kan. For 30 years she was a quality-control supervisor for Rocky Mountain Orthodontics in Lakewood. In 1961, she moved to Kittredge. Along with dear friends Chris and the late Randy, she was in partnership of a liquor store in Kittredge and did home renovations. She was an avid RV’er. Private burial services were held at Evergreen Memorial Park. There was cremation.

    She is survived by Chris.

  • Kimberly Elizabeth McKinnis

    Kimberly Elizabeth McKinnis died on April 18, 2008, after a 20-year struggle with multiple sclerosis.

    She attended West Jefferson Elementary and Middle Schools and graduated from Evergreen High School in 1980. Aside from becoming an avid photographer, she was a member of the Geneva Basin and Loveland Ski Teams. Kim was also a horse counselor at Tomahawk Ranch for several summers.

  • Paul Zeno Turley, 82

    Paul Zeno Turley, 82, was born June 3, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., to Durward and Eunice Turley.

    Paul quit school after the 11th grade to join the U.S. Navy during World War II. The Navy sent him to Purdue University, where he became an electrician. He served on a destroyer escort and visited China.

  • Kayla Ann (Bittel) Terry, 33

    Kayla Ann (Bittel) Terry, 33, died June 2, 2008, at her home in New Castle, Colo., surrounded by her family.

    Kayla was born July 11, 1974, in Wheat Ridge to Donald Joseph and Elizabeth Ann (Starvish) Bittel.

    In her childhood, she lived on a small mountain farm in Critchell, near Conifer, with her sister Candy and brother Galen. She attended West Jefferson Elementary and West Jefferson Junior High School in Conifer. She graduated from Platte Canyon High School in Bailey in 1992 and then attended Fort Lewis College in Durango.

  • John Bernard Knopp, 71

    John Bernard Knopp, 71, died peacefully on June 19, 2008, in Morrison.

    He was preceded in death by infant son, Jeffrey; parents Bernard and Elizabeth Knopp; and niece Laura Freeberg. He is survived by daughters Cynthia (John) Pougiales and Caroline (Mark) LaRue; grandchildren Adrian and Ali Pougiales and Lauren and Rachel LaRue; sisters Elizabeth (Roger) Freeberg and Mollie Christensen; nephew Nicholas (Jennifer) Christensen; and nieces Ann (Greg) Sorich and Elizabeth Christensen.

  • Velma Lee Stice, 92

    Velma Lee Stice, 92, formerly of Boulder City, Nev., and New Albany, Ind., died June 12, 2008, at Life Care Center of Evergreen.

    Born April 14, 1916, in Crawford County, Ind., Velma was the daughter of the late George and Alma Lee.

    She was a former member of Grace Community Church in Boulder City and First Church of God in New Albany.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherl F. Stice; three sisters, Zora Leimkuehler, Etta Doolittle and Lucille Allen; and three brothers, Robert, George W. and Richard Lee.

  • Susan Daum Casper, 67

    Susan D. Casper, an Evergreen resident, died June 20 at age 67 after a year-long battle with acute myelogenous leukemia. A requiem Mass was celebrated June 24 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen.

    Susan was born April 7, 1941, in Queens, N.Y., to Margorie Rambo and Richard Daum. She graduated from the State University of New York, Crane Department of Music in Potsdam, N.Y, with a B.S. in music education, and from Central Connecticut State University with an M.S. in guidance and counseling.

  • John Christian Antweiler II, 90

    John Christian “Jack” Antweiler, son of one of the original pioneer settlers of Evergreen, died at his home Wednesday morning, June 18.
