  • Ruby Amelia Potter, 83

    Ruby Amelia Potter, 83, a former Evergreen resident, died peacefully in Bellevue, Wash., on June 28, 2008, after 13 years with Parkinson’s disease. Ruby had a strong will and great spirit that endeared her to her family and many friends.

  • William Andrew 'Billy' Elliott, 34

    William Andrew “Billy” Elliott, 34, of Lakewood died on July 26, 2008, in Summerland, British Columbia, after a boating accident. Billy and his family loved boating, camping and riding snowmobiles.

    He is survived by his loving wife, Erin; daughters Brandi and Lexi; son Bryce; mother Susan Elliott; father Dale Elliott; grandmother Patricia Hill; brothers Greg (Carla) Elliott and Patrick (Jennifer) Elliott; aunt Terri Pannell; cousin Michael Pannell; and five nieces and nephews.

  • Alleen M. Thompson, 96

    Alleen M. Thompson of Evergreen died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Life Care Center of Evergreen. She was 96.

    Alleen was born in Prague, Okla., on Sept. 7, 1911, to Orin A. and Adah Gahr Mason. She moved to Fort Collins with her family when she was 4 years old. After graduating from high school, she attended Molar Barber and Beauty College in Denver. She worked at several beauty salons in Greeley and later in Los Angeles. On April 11, 1933, she and George W. Thompson were married in Evans. They were married for 64 years.

  • Betty June Smith, 81

    A 15-year Conifer resident, Betty June Smith died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Johnson Center in Centennial. She was 81.

    June was born June 4, 1927, in Shoals, Ind. For a number of years she worked as a media center assistant in the Valparaiso Public School System. On Dec. 21, 1947, she married Harry W. Smith in Valparaiso, Ind. She was an accomplished seamstress and had entered numerous items in Indiana county fairs. She and her husband toured many times with Specialty Tours. They were active with a Conifer seniors group that met monthly. She was a gracious hostess.

  • F. Wendell Hanson, 87

    F. Wendell Hanson, 87, of Idledale was born in Neosho County, Kan., on Jan. 28, 1921, and died on July 25, 2008.

    Wendell served with distinction in the U.S. Army infantry during the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, and moved to Colorado shortly after his honorary discharge. Wendell was married to Pauline Marley in 1977. He loved the Colorado outdoors, where he became very active as marshal of a local dog sled club, an instructor in the Rocky Mountain Climbing Club, and exploring many of Colorado’s mountains with his bride.

  • Alvin Stuart

    Alvin Stuart of Montrose died in the first few moments of July 4, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City.

    He was born in St. Francis, Kan., on Sept. 11, 1932, to Clarence and Audrey Stuart, and lived most of his youth in Montrose.

    Al graduated from Montrose High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953, where he completed horseshoeing school. He received the National Defense Service Medal of Good Conduct while serving as a farrier and quartermaster in the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale and Fort Carson in Colorado.

  • Wilfred Francois 'Pete' Roux Jr., 79

    Wilfred Francois Pete Roux Jr., 79, died peacefully in his Evergreen home on July 18 following a brief encounter with cancer.

    He was born Feb. 2 1929, in New Orleans, La., to Jesselle Lott Roux and Wilfred F. Roux Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, Regina.

    Pete earned three degrees in geology: a bachelor of science from Tulane, a master of science from Louisiana State, and a Ph.D. at the University of Texas. He married his lifelong companion, Sue Lander Roux, in 1956 in Victoria, Texas.

  • Peter J. Peacock, 73

    Peter J. Peacock, 73, of Evergreen passed away July 9, 2008.

    Mr. Peacock was born in Bacup, England, in February 1935 and was raised in Southport, U.K. He was a member of the Queen’s Guards, Scots Guards regiment. He was a manufacturing engineer with International Harvester & Co. in Chicago, Ill.

    Mr. Peacock and his entire family enjoyed skiing and traveling together.

    Funeral services were held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Evergreen.

  • Cody Patrick Hickerson, 16

    Cody Patrick Hickerson, 16, of Evergreen died Tuesday, July 8, 2008. A memorial service was held Monday, July 14, at Lookout Mountain Community Church, 534 Commons Drive in Golden.

  • Joyce Ann Wendt, 65

    A 27-year Evergreen resident, Joyce Ann Wendt died July 1, 2008, after a brief illness. She was 65.

    Joyce was born Feb. 28, 1943, in Odell, Neb. She received a bachelor’s degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., and a master’s degree from Leslie College in Boston. For 15 years, she taught at Ralston Elementary School. She enjoyed hiking in the Rocky Mountains and travel. Her passion was her granddaughters, Ana, Adi and Lilly.

    In 1981 she was married to Laird L. Wendt at their home in Evergreen.
