  • Gilbert Schoonveld, 73

    Gilbert Schoonveld, 73, of Evergreen died at home Feb. 13, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer. He faced death as he did his life, surrounded by family, comfortable in his own home, and with with dignity and thoughtfulness.

    Gil’s passions in life were the outdoors, old car restoration, antiques and family.

    He was the much-loved husband of Janice, father of Gregory, Kristin and Brian, and grandfather/great-grandfather of seven.

  • Ethelind Elbert Austin, 1909-2009

    Ethelind Elbert Austin, the grandniece of Colorado territorial Gov. Samuel Elbert — for whom Mount Elbert is named — and the great-grandniece-in-law of territorial Gov. John Evans — for whom Mount Evans is named — died at her home in Aurora on Jan. 28.

  • Margaret Ormond, 84

    Margaret Ormond, 84, died peacefully on Feb. 2 in Evergreen with family at her side.

    Margaret was preceded in death by husband Daniel A. Ormond Sr., son Spec. 4 Dennis A. Ormond, and grandson Daniel K. Dodge.

  • Margaret Jean Kirkpatrick, 83

    Margaret Jean Kirkpatrick (Peterson), 83, of Evergreen died Feb. 3, 2009. Born in Munising, Mich., Margaret moved to Denver in 1947 with a degree in nursing. She met George Kirkpatrick at the University of Denver, and they were married in 1948. They have lived in Evergreen since 1983. During their 62 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling the world, camping, fishing, skiing and being with their family.

  • Laura Lee Kubin Thurman, 89

    Memorial services for Laura Lee Kubin Thurman, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the United Church in Idaho Springs. She died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Pioneer Ridge Health Care Center in Lawrence, Kan.

  • Jean Louise Youngstrom Mohr, 88

    Jean Y. Mohr was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on Feb. 22, 1920, and died in Wheat Ridge on Dec. 31, 2008.

    She married the love of her life, Harold Mohr, on July 4, 1942. Jean became a well-respected local watercolor artist, capturing the beauty of Colorado and ocean landscapes.

    Jean was a strong, independent woman and an avid Broncos fan and reader. Her stubbornness was more than offset by her comic playfulness and zest for life. She retained a wonder and delight for the beauty in the world, from the first spring flowers to a Mozart concerto.

  • W. Wayne Sigle, 67

    W. Wayne Sigle, 67, of Loveland died at his home on Jan. 18, 2009. He was born June 4, 1941, in Beloit, Kan., to Frank Henry and Elsie (Hayden) Sigle Jr.

    Wayne graduated from high school in Sylvan Grove, Kan., in 1959 and from Emporia State College in Emporia, Kan. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as the tour director for the U.S. Navy in Pearl Harbor on the USS Arizona.

  • G. Patrick Stueber, 71

    G. Patrick Stueber 71, of Evergreen, died unexpectedly Jan. 22, 2009, after a brief illness.

    He is survived by his wife, Judy J. Jipsen; sons Russell and Randall (Pattie); grandchildren Reed, Riley, Alexander and Melinda; and a brother, Richard, of Minnesota. Patrick was preceded in death by a daughter, Rochelle; and a brother, Charles.

  • Dorothy M. Lasterie, 95

    A 40-year resident, Dorothy M. Lasterie, nee Ivosevic, died Jan. 11, 2009, at Life Care Center of Evergreen. She was 95.

    Dorothy was a longtime member of Church of the Transfiguration. She loved walking and visiting friends. She was a loving wife of Jan B. Lasterie and the devoted mother of Jean Carol, known as “Jeanie,” both deceased.
