  • Robert Dale ‘Bob’ Cates, 52

    Robert Dale Cates, known by most as Bob Cates, died sometime the first week of December 2008 by his own hand at the age of 52.

    He was born Sept. 17, 1956, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to his beloved mother, Mary Ann, and father, Floyd Cates.

  • Joyce Elaine Puckorius, 79

    Joyce Elaine Puckorius, 79, a longtime resident of Evergreen, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 26, at her home in Sebring, Fla. She was a native of Michigan, born Nov. 13, 1929, to Anna and Clarence Heinzman of Detroit.

    Joyce was a graduate of North Central College in Naperville, Ill., earning a bachelor’s degree in home economics.

  • Benton Bailey Banchor, 90

    Benton Bailey Banchor passed away in Denver on Jan. 10, 2009.

    He was born in his grandfather’s mansion in Oberlin, Kan., on Dec. 22, 1918, and frequently shared his fond memories of a wonderful childhood at the Benton mansion. The mansion later became Oberlin’s first hospital. Ben grew up with a brother Gordon (Buddy), a sister Patty, who passed away at age 4, and a foster sister, Nancy. The Banchor family lived at the mansion for a time, but due to hard times and the Depression, they moved to Denver in 1930.

  • Robert Richard Welch, 87

    Robert Richard Welch, 87, of Annapolis, Md., and formerly of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., died of respiratory failure on Feb. 12, 2009, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis surrounded by his children.

    Mr. Welch was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Detroit to the late George Welch and Grace McInerney Welch.

    He attended Lincoln High School and grew up in Pleasant Ridge, Mich. The family owned a cottage at Higgins Lake and spent most summers there.

    He attended college and attained an associate’s degree.

    Alan Thomas Sibley, 56

    Alan Thomas “Tom” Sibley, a resident of Evergreen, died Jan. 29 as a result of a car accident.

    Tom, a devoted father and husband, is survived by his wife of 20 years, Anne Freiberger Sibley; his son, Matt, 18, and daughter Sarah, 13. Tom also leaves behind a loving family of brothers and sister, Larry and sister-in-law Lynne Bost, Kris (sister-in-law) and Michael Bost, Regan and Jim Bost, (sister-in-law) Carol and Don Bost, and sister Ellen and Mike Potter.

    Donald James Carringi, 65

    Donald James Carringi of Evergreen died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. He was born in Schenectady, N.Y., on Oct. 14, 1943. He was 65.

    Don graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in business administration. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Schenectady Fire Department with more than 20 years of service.

    Florence Magdeline Cota, 89

    Florence Magdeline Cota, 89, peacefully passed away Feb. 24, in Deerfield Beach, Fla.

    Flo was born March 26, 1919, in Ambridge, Pa. She was the seventh of 10 children, born to Polish immigrants and raised in a bilingual community where her Catholic church was a central part of her life.

    Arthur Hansen died Feb. 9, 2009, at Life Care Center of Evergreen. He was 87.

  • Linda Marie ‘Bobbie’ Rusch, 57

    Linda Marie “Bobbie” Rusch, 57, of Fairplay died in her home Saturday, Feb. 14, 2008.

    Born and raised in Denver, she moved to Alma 15 years ago, then to Fairplay 10 years ago. Her family owned Alma’s Only Bar until five years ago. She devoted life to raising her two children and her dog Laddie. The outdoors, hiking, camping and hunting were her passions.

  • Robert Allen Elmgreen, 78

    It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Robert Allen Elmgreen on Feb. 10, 2009. Robert, an Evergreen native, was born Sept. 29, 1931. Robert’s parents were Arthur Elmgreen and Hilda Elmgreen.

    Robert graduated from Evergreen Senior High School in 1949. After a tour in Korea, he went on to graduate from the University of Colorado before a long, distinguished career as an engineer with the federal government.

    Robert’s passions were golf and fishing.
