Cougars thwarted by Valor’s young arms

LAKEWOOD — The opening pitch proved to be a bad omen for Evergreen with the driver’s seat on the line in the Class 4A Jeffco League baseball race for the conference title.

Cougars’ ace Dane Kapande plunked Valor Christian leadoff batter Joel Pierce to begin the showdown April 27 at All Star Park in Lakewood. The first four Eagles reached base in the top of the first inning on the way to a two-run first inning and eventual 3-1 victory over Evergreen (9-5 record, 4-1 in league).
