Man dies after ATV falls through ice on Evergreen Lake

An Idledale man died Thursday after the ATV he was using to groom Evergreen Lake fell through the ice.

Greg Henika, 67, was pulled from the water about 10 a.m. by a rescue diver, according to Doug Saba of Evergreen Fire/Rescue. The ATV that Henika was driving broke through the ice about 9:35 a.m., and people nearby called 911.

Henika was pronounced dead at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, where he had been taken by helicopter, said Gordon Johnson, a deputy coroner for Jefferson County. An autopsy will be performed, Johnson said.
