  • Chado to volunteer in Ecuador

    Garrett Chado of Evergreen has been selected to participate in a two-week volunteer program in Ecuador, working alongside 20 to 50 other individuals from around the globe. Chado will be working under the direction of an organization called International Student Volunteers.

  • Richard receives master of science in mechanical engineering

    Philip D. Richard Jr., son of Philip and Lois Richard, received his master of science in mechanical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Richard graduated from Evergreen High School in 2001 and graduated from Colorado School of Mines in 2005 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Richard is lead production engineer at Precise Cast in Commerce City. Philip Sr. and Lois owned and operated Mountain Pharmacy in Evergreen for 25 years and will be returning to Evergreen to retire in two years.

  • Simon & Son conclude tour

    Evergreen piano duo Simon & Son just returned from a 40-city tour of the Midwest and are happy to be home for the holidays. The duo performed in New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana.

  • Cohen honored as Exempla Lutheran Medical Center Physician of the Year

    Canyon Courier columnist Dr. Ken Cohen was honored this month as the Exempla Lutheran Medical Center Physician of the Year. Cohen is chief medical officer for New West Physicians and has practiced internal medicine at the Evergreen New West office for the past 16 years. He is an experienced physician leader and researcher who has attained local and national recognition for research in the areas of internal medicine and health care quality improvement.

  • EHS Poms shine at local competitions

    The EHS Poms captured top honors recently in two local competitions. The Poms won the division championship in hip-hop at the UDA Regional Dance Competition at the Denver Convention Center on Nov. 13. 

  • Rally to Restore Sanity comes to Evergreen

    Over a cup of joe a few weeks ago, three women set out to bring some sanity to Evergreen. Jon Stewart, Comedy Central's host of “The Daily Show,” hosted the Rally to Restore Sanity in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 30, and Katharine Hahn, Suzi Hoffer and Gail Montgomery felt that Evergreen should do the same. Political ads full of venom, conversations leading to screaming matches, and accusations laced with hatred all spoke to a need for a rally.

  • Kids donate candy to soldiers

    Thanks to the enthusiastic trick-or-treating youths of Evergreen, soldiers serving in Afghanistan will once again enjoy a huge belated Halloween treat.

    The second annual “Give to Get Halloween Candy Bribe-Back” at the Island in Hiwan was an overwhelming success. Just before dusk on Halloween night, Dr. Courtney College, local pediatric dentist, along with many costumed volunteers, set up shop in the middle of the popular trick-or-treating neighborhood. Kids of all ages donated some of their hard-earned candy for soldiers serving overseas.

  • Thursdays at TallGrass benefit Evergreen area nonprofit organizations

    In celebration of its 15th anniversary, TallGrass Aveda Spa and Salon is hosting a series of benefit events, highlighting a different non-profit organization each Thursday in October.

     On Oct. 21, the spa raised $750 for Mt. Evans Hospice by donating the price of 10 massages.

    The last fund-raising Thursday on Oct. 28 is a massage benefit for the Seniors’ Resource Center in Evergreen. Call 303-670-4444 to make an appointment.

     

  • IN UNIFORM: Solum promoted

    Ashley R. Solum has been promoted to the rank of senior airman in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

    Solum is an air crew flight equipment journeyman assigned to the 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. The senior airman has served in the military for one year.

    She is the daughter of Phillip C. Solum and stepdaughter of Giner Solum of Hawley, Minn.

    Her mother, Patty Solum, lives in Evergreen.

  • ENGAGEMENT: Young – Brown

    Lindsey Marie Young and Spencer Hudson Brown are engaged to be married.

    Lindsey is the daughter of Kristie (Young) McGuire of Evergreen and Steve Young of Atlanta.  Spencer is the son of Cheryl Hastings of Evergreen and Dr. Mark Brown of Maine.  

    Lindsey is a 2002 Evergreen High School graduate and is employed with  The Steadman Clinic of Vail as a private operating room nurse. Spencer is a 1996 Evergreen High School graduate and is employed with NOVA guides in Vail as a back-country guide.
