In the 21st century, we have paparazzi, tabloids and Twitter to fill us in on the every move of Hollywood actors and directors. In the 1930s, however, the secrets of Hollywood were often just that — secrets. That is, until Ron Hutchinson took it upon himself to dramatize the events that led to the creation of the screenplay for “Gone With the Wind.” The movie won eight Oscars in 1939, but months earlier it took three men five days to rewrite the script in a format that was worthy of these awards.

2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Italian-American composer Gian Carlo Menotti and the 60th anniversary of his classic Christmas opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”

Once they have acquired the skills of their trade, artists set out on a path to discover the subject matter that stirs their artistic souls. For Santa Fe-based artist Jill Shwaiko, it wasn’t until after her formal education was complete that she stumbled upon the images that inspire and inform her work — primitive petroglyphs of bighorn sheep.

Art and dance have always been a part of Sarah Wallace Scott’s life. The Evergreen native grew up studying ballet and theater but ultimately found her life’s work in visual art. It is no surprise that this emerging artist leapt at the chance to erase the boundaries between visual and performing art. Her work will be featured this month in a unique collaboration between the resident artists of Denver’s Redline Gallery and Ballet Nouveau Colorado.
