  • Evergreen studios about to open their doors

September is a time to celebrate the beauty of our mountain community. The first touches of gold appear on the aspen, and the hay meadows have changed from green to shades of copper. It is also a time to celebrate the artistic community in the greater Evergreen area by visiting the studios of our working artists. The 10th annual Open Door Studios of Evergreen offers a backstage look at the time, talent and techniques involved in the creation of the beautiful works of art that best capture the changing seasons of Evergreen and the world beyond.

  • ‘Evita’ brings Argentina to Center/Stage

The Evergreen Chorale kicks off its 2011-12 season with “Evita,” a show-stopper that will fill Center/Stage Theater with the sights and sounds of Argentina in the early 20th century. This rock-opera story of the rise and fall of Argentina’s beloved first lady, Eva Peron, reopens on Broadway in 2012, but why fly to New York when you can enjoy the charms and ambitions of “Evita” right here in Evergreen?

  • It’s season-ticket season on the Evergreen arts scene

  • Exhibit at Evergreen Fine Art benefits school art programs

The owners of Evergreen Fine Art, Barb Hadley and Phil Shanley, along with the rest of the gallery staff, have become known for their keen eyes for beautiful art and their charitable giving to their community. The latest show at the gallery, Weekend in the West, combines the best of these traits, promising to be a weekend of highly sought-after art and charitable support for our mountain schools’ arts programs.

  • Stoneheart exhibit a good sign

Have you ever fallen prey to (or perhaps used) the age-old pick-up line, “What’s your sign?” The signs of the zodiac have been used to predict the future of people’s lives for years. In the case of Evergreen citizens and visitors, these astrological symbols can predict the future of your Friday night — a trip to the hottest art auction in town at Stoneheart Gallery on Main Street in Evergreen. You’ll leave feeling happier than a hippie that you finally paid attention when someone asked, “What’s your sign?”

  • High school musicians to perform at fund-raiser

Week after week, we read about our talented mountain musicians performing with the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra, acting in Evergreen Players productions, or singing with the Evergreen Chorale. If you’ve ever wondered where some of these local artists honed their musical chops, look no further than the instrumental music programs in the Evergreen public schools.

  • Two-man exhibition at Mirada soars

William Butler Yeats wrote, “I know that I shall meet my fate somewhere among the clouds above.” Although Yeats was referring to an Irish airman, the same can be said for the latest exhibition at Mirada Fine Arts Gallery, “in the CLOUDS.” In this innovative show, Mirada has combined the talents of two disparate artists to create a show that is full of color and whimsy, as well as those moments of emotional reflection that can be found in the clouds above.

  • Jazz Fest honors best of the genre, best of Evergreen

The genre of music we call jazz has been described as “the infinite art of improvisation.” The true beauty of jazz is that this spirit of improvisation extends beyond the page — beyond musical stylings — to the musicians themselves. The jazz community as far back as the 1920s has been known for the camaraderie among its musicians and their ability to combine diverse talents into new musical combinations at the drop of a hat.

  • Summerfest to bring art, fun to Buchanan Park

Every year, passers-by can watch as the athletic fields at Buchanan Park are transformed into the artists’ extravaganza known as Summerfest. First the white-roofed tents are raised, then the walkways between the tent pods are carefully established, and finally the artists arrive.  Buchanan Park and all of Evergreen are filled with a buzz as a whole new group of artists display their fine arts and handmade crafts for all to see and purchase.
