Waldo, the popular children's book character, is appearing at 25 Evergreen locations during the month of July.

Those who spot the 6-inch version of Waldo will be eligible for prizes and book coupons.

After last year's success, HearthFire Books in Bergen Village is sponsoring the Find Waldo hunt again this summer.

Waldo figures are well-hidden in local businesses from HearthFire to the Village Gourmet at The Marketplace to Seasonally Yours and the Green Merchant in downtown Evergreen. They also can be found at arts, nature and cultural centers in town.

"Find Waldo is a great summer vacation activity, and a wonderful way for residents to support local businesses and the 'shop local' movement," said Marcie Dahlen, who is coordinating the campaign.

Anyone who would like to participate in the hunt can get a "Find Waldo Local" passport at Hearthfire Books, along with names of participating sites. Passports will be stamped and signed for each Waldo that is spotted.

The first 100 Waldo seekers who have passports signed or stamped at 10 or more places may bring them back to HearthFire to collect prizes. Collecting stamps or signatures at 20 or more businesses will entitle participants to enter a grand-prize drawing on July 31, with the top prize a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books.

English children's author and illustrator Martin Handford created the first Where's Waldo book in 1987. Currently there are more than 58 million books in print worldwide, including those that have been translated into 18 languages.
