Evergreen’s Tenney cards 88 as Lady Cougars take 3rd in opener
GOLDEN
— Madison Tenney carded a team-best score of 88 as the Evergreen Lady Cougars opened the 2013 season with a third-place finish in the 4A Jeffco League opener March 19 at Applewood Golf Course.
Tenney, a junior, placed fourth individually.
Evergreen’s Emily Rivers fired a 100, Kelsey Evezich shot a 110, while Hanna Esau and Carly Ratekin carded a 119 each.
Golden placed first in the seven-team field, while D’Evelyn came in second.

Slack’s two goals help EHS to break out of its three-game slide
ARVADA
— Jenny Slack scored a goal in each half as Evergreen snapped a three-game losing streak to open the 2013 season with a 2-0 win at Faith Christian on March 19.
Erin Morrato assisted on one of Slack’s two goals. Goalkeeper Sarah Temple made six saves.
Macy Pearman had 11 saves in net for Faith Christian.

Evergreen girls win, boys take 2nd at Jeffco League relays
LAKEWOOD
— Evergreen’s girls won four events, including the throwers relay and discus throw relay, as the Lady Cougars took first place at the 4A Jeffco League Relays on March 19 at Jeffco Stadium.
The Lady Cougars finished with 122 points, edging past Golden, which scored 119. D’Evelyn was third with 114.5.
Evergreen’s girls also won the 4x100 shuttle hurdle and the distance medley.
The Evergreen boys team took second to D’Evelyn with 117 points. The Jaguars finished with 140.
Evergreen finished with six first-place team finishes in the throwers relay, 4x200 meters relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump and discus throw relays. That included a one-two-three finish by Gage Larson, Andre Lane and Chase Kelley in the high jump relay.

BASEBALL
Cougars take 2-0 season mark to Arizona for spring break games
The Evergreen Cougars, off to a 2-0 start during the 2013 season, played a two-game spring break series in Arizona on March 26-27.
The Cougars, who’ve allowed just two seventh-inning runs thus far this season, faced Mingus High School (Cottonwood, Ariz.) on March 26. Results of that game weren’t available at press time. Evergreen play at Paradise Valley High (Phoenix) on March 27 before returning to Colorado and squaring off with 4A Jeffco League rival Wheat Ridge on April 3 at 4 p.m., at Everitt Middle School.
