LAKEWOOD — Jake Kay, Evergreen’s junior 120-pounder who returned to the mat after missing four weeks with a separated right shoulder, went 3-0 and won the 4A Jeffco League wrestling championship Feb. 4 at Bear Creek High School.
Kay, wrestling in round-robin competition, scored the Cougars’ lone championship with his victory over Josh Shipley of Wheat Ridge.
Senior Josh Karnath placed second at 220 pounds, finishing 2-1 in round-robin action. His only loss came to eventual champion Dwight Howes of Arvada.
The Cougars placed ninth out of 10 schools with 31 points. Golden won the team title with 163 points. Arvada came in second with 120.
The tournament was relocated from Elizabeth High School due to the heavy snow that pelted the area Thursday night and Friday.
