Property crimes on the rise in the mountain area

Population growth a possible factor in an uptick in criminal activity

By Corinne Westeman

While most crimes are the same or lower than last year, the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office reports that in 2016 the mountain area experienced an increased numbers of assaults, mischief, property, theft, and vehicle trespassing compared with 2014 and 2015.

Crime Prevention Deputy Janie Gonda clarified that these numbers encompass specifically the mountain precinct and not Jefferson County as a whole. The Sheriff’s Office mountain precinct includes Evergreen, Conifer, Pine and Deckers, she said. It does not include Genesee or Golden.
