At least four businesses were victims of a recent phone scam involving someone posing as a representative of Xcel Energy, the Jeffco Sheriff's Office reported.
The scammer would call a businesses and say its Xcel bill was past due. The caller then said that unless a payment was made immediately with a reloadable cash card, the power would be turned off, said Jeffco sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley.
