A special hike for youngsters that features the Snow White story will take place on June 14 at Buchanan Park.
Presented by Theatre-Hikes Colorado, both actors and the audience will take a moderate hike, with scenes from the fairytale performed along the way.
This updated version of the classic fairy tale by Marjorie Sokoff features seven quirky dwarfs, a tongue-tied prince, a sassy mirror, a dancing chicken — and, of course, the lovely Snow White.
“You hike and go to see a scene. You’re getting some exercise,” said Maren Schreiber, special-populations coordinator for the Evergreen Park and Recreation District. “It really sounds like fun.
“Feel free to bring blankets, mats or portable camping chairs, and pack drinks and food,” said Schrieber. “We encourage everyone to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sunscreen, hats, water, sun umbrellas and light jackets.”
If it rains, the performance will move inside Buchanan Rec Center.
Youngsters attending summer camp can participate in an afternoon performance that takes place at 1:30 p.m. June 14. The performance for the general public is at 6 p.m.
Check-in will take place in front of the recreation center.
Cost is $20 per person in advance and $25 the day of the performance. Children ages 2 and under are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at both Buchanan and Wulf recreation centers.
Summer hiking adventures
The park district also is offering a series of adventure hikes for adults throughout the summer.
“The outdoor adventure program combines camaraderie and challenge as we explore the beauty of our Colorado hiking trails,” said Schreieber.
Hikes range from moderate to difficult terrain; miles listed in following schedule are round-trip distances.
All planned hikes are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
The shuttle to the hiking locations leaves the Wulf Recreation Center at 7:30 a.m., unless otherwise posted.
Cost per person is $17 for district residents and $21 for non-district residents. Registration for the hikes is required two weeks in advance.
