As my two boys have grown to their mid-20s, they have given me daily joy by declaring “Peace” as a farewell wish instead of “Goodbye” or “So long” as they fly out our doors. While the use of “Peace” as a general salutation has always set well with my Mennonite heritage, it was the politics of the Vietnam War that intensified its depth, and frequency of use, for me.
