The Indian Hills fire department has a new chief, but recommendations from a consultant who found a “climate of distrust” in the agency — as well as outdated procedural guidelines — have yet to be put into place.
Chief D.J. Himstedt, who had served the agency for the last three years, was not retained in a 7-6 vote of the membership in December. Garnering the seven votes was Emery Carson, who was chief from January 1999 through December 2003.
