Mountain Bowl: Late TD gives Evergreen win over Conifer, conference title

Evergreen quarterback Noah Ansley scrambled in from six yards out with 5 minutes, 39 seconds remaining in a defensive struggle, and the Cougars stopped Conifer quarterback Thomas Kim on 4th-and-goal from the 9 with 6.4 seconds left for a 13-9 victory in the Mountain Bowl on Nov. 4 at Evergreen High School.
The win not only gave Evergreen (9-1) the 3A Metro South conference title, but also clinched a first-round home playoff game next week. The Colorado High School Activities Association will release first-round playoff pairings on Nov. 6.
Conifer, despite claiming a share of the conference title and taking a 9-6 lead earlier in the fourth quarter on Matthew McClintock's 4-yard run, dropped to 6-4 and would need help to sneak into the 16-team playoffs.
