A man fled on foot May 19 from the Colorado State Patrol on Interstate 70 as a trooper tried to pull him over on a traffic violation. The suspect was caught a short time later with the help of the media, according to the patrol.

Manual Serrano Jr., 41, of Denver pulled his car into the left-hand lanes of eastbound I-70 near the Lookout Mountain exit when the trooper tried to pull him over about 2:23 p.m. Serrano struck several cones in a construction zone, got out of his car and ran across I-70, fleeing in a southwesterly direction. Eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for about two hours as troopers and deputies from the Jeffco Sheriff's Office searched for Serrano.

Serrano was caught and taken to the Jefferson County jail. He was charged with misdemeanor eluding, reckless driving, speeding aggressively within a construction zone, DUI and being a felony habitual traffic offender.

Jacki Kelley, spokeswoman for the Jeffco sheriff, said deputies were in the area and responded to a call for assistance.
